Student Resource Center Herbert Hoover High School Glendale Unifed School District 651 Glenwood Rd. Glendale, CA 91202 "Building a Culture of Success" Now, entering its third year of operation, the Student Resource Center (SRC) at Hoover High School has become an increasingly integral part of school culture, whether in the classroom, via after school clubs, in-house workshops or countless interventions. SRC co-directors Ara Mgrdichian and Alex Garcia have conducted both a great volume and a great variety of interventions with students and staff both in and out of the classroom, and, in so doing, have gained a formidable amount of accurate insight and information into the dynamics that surround the problems that challenge our youth. In accordance with this experience and information, the SRC has recalibrated its focus in order to keep its work clearly in concert with its original mission and ethic, developed in the summer of 2006 and discussed at length with both administration and district superintendents. The SRC goals here at Hoover, and within the GUSD at large, are two fold--part one of this mission is to provide assessment, intervention, counseling and subsequent referral of students into effective school, community and extant SRC programs which address the particularly challenging lives our cohorts are living at school, at home and in the community. Our second, and possibly most important task, is to provide effective in-school and after school activities and programs that will offer our students and their families real, alternative avenues for building and experiencing success in juxtaposition to the often taxing and debilitating cultural realities within which we all live and by which we are all challenged. For this we need your help and support, both material and moral. Hopefully all our efforts, large and small, will translate into successes and change in other areas of our student's lives and may be used as templates for greater achievements.
