All library PCs have installed on them MS Office 2000 or 2003 (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access), Choices Career software, MasterPlots (literary criticisms and summaries), access to print to two black and white laser printers and one color laser printer; 10 PCs have licenses to Adobe PhotoShop and two scanners. Due to the current budget cuts, the Hoover High School Library no longer subscribes to an online periodical database.
Printing and Photocopying:
Students may print out ten pages of homework at no cost. After ten pages or if printing multiple copies of the same document, we charge 10 cents a page for black and white print outs. Color print outs are always 50 cents per page. Students may now print out homework before school, at snack and at lunch. It is the student's responsibility to get to class on time.
Circulation Policy:
Student must show a valid Hoover I.D to borrow material. Students may check out DVDs but not VHS. Most material circulates for three weeks and may be renewed on or before the due date. Students need to bring checked-out items in to renew them so that we may stamp them with the new due date. The library charges $0.10 per day ($0.25 per day on material that circulates overnight) on overdue material.
Library Information Skills:
Libraries and librarians have changed a lot in recent years. With the advent of the Internet, education now realizes the importance of teaching library/information literacy skills to students so that they may develop into discerning users of information. Library information skills go beyond teaching how to locate a book to include how to undertake a research paper to creating a multimedia presentation.
